cask and barrelOn our second day in Aberdeen we decided to visit the beautiful harbour town of Stonehaven, location of THE MARINE HOTEL, CAMRA Scottish pub of the year 2008/09 and a short 20 minute rail journey from Aberdeen (page 25 of CAMRA Scotland’s True Heritage Pubs). MaThe next day it was time to head up to Aberdeen for the beer festival. With the option of catching the train from either Edinburgh Waverley or Haymarket I opted for the latter station as this provided an opportunity to briefly visit THOMSONS BAR on Morrison Street. Eight real ales are available and we opted for Fyne Ales Avalanche, a very refreshing 4.8 % straw coloured beer with subtle fruit notes. We made our way to Haymarket station for the 13.32 departure to Aberdeen. Although the journey takes over two hours it was a scenic journey involving crossing the Forth and Tay Bridges and travelling alongside the East Coast of Scotland...
